Weekly Update: August 14, 2024

Word from the Pastor:

I pray this Newsletter finds you doing well this week. Before I say anything else, I want to recognize the reality that Doug Milligan has lost both of his parents in less than two months.  Both Amy and Doug have shouldered the weight of much loss over this past season, and as a body, I ask that we hold them up in prayer, we respond with compassion, and meet needs where possible.  This past week we studied the Beatitudes and one of Jesus' statements went like this: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

I believe with all my heart mourning is healed through compassion, and this is where God's church has the opportunity to shine.  When we experience pain for whatever reason, true healing is impossible when we have to go it alone.  I also realize it is not easy to enter the healing process of another person because it often calls on us to prioritize the needs of another and sometimes at our own expense; but our investment into the healing of others pays such deep dividends that outweigh the immediate. And so, we have two important members of our body who are mourning, and so may we simply begin by mourning with those who mourn.

Please join us immediately following the service on September 15 for our church wide business meeting, as we discuss what’s going on in the life of the church.  This church belongs to all of us, and we want to hear your thoughts and suggestions!  LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED – so come fellowship and let’s talk about how we can best be Kingdom people in Driftwood!

Trustee Nominations and Elections: Nov-Dec 2024

This November, we will be asking our members for nominations for two Trustee positions that will be open in January 2025. Following the nomination process, we will have elections, to follow in December. Please be praying for God’s guidance as we fill these important positions.

Social Hour: Sundays at 10:00 am

Our social hour is a great way to get to know each other over breakfast tacos! We meet in the Education Building at 10:00 a.m. before the 11:00 a.m. church service.

Volunteer Opportunity

We need volunteers for the lector position, preferably for monthly commitments at a minimum. Responsibilities on Sunday mornings include welcoming the congregation, announcements, leading the scripture reading and the Nicene Creed.  Please be in prayer about this need for our church.  If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please complete this form or contact a trustee or the pastor.

Dripping Springs Helping Hands Pantry

August donation requests for the pantry are canned peaches, peanut butter and boxed cereal. We accept any non-perishable food items at any time, as well as diapers and wipes.  You can place your donations in the bin in the Education building.  The Pantry is very appreciative of our donations.  Thank you, Dave, for making the deliveries.
