Word from the Pastor:

I hope and pray this newsletter finds you doing well this week.  We have had a very busy week and a great week thus far.

Several months ago, while in the book of James, we discussed the distinction between how James (and Jesus) uses the concept of "faith" versus modern interpretations. In modernity, faith is seen as belief, prayer, and confession, but biblically, it’s better understood as "faithfulness"—an ongoing way of living rather than a one-time mental or verbal assent. This perspective aligns with the early Christian notion of "The Way."

Every person, whether atheist or theist, operates on faith or faithfulness, as we all base our lives on beliefs about reality and the future without definitive proof. This can be viewed as "risk," where faith is the risk we take in a particular direction. As we explore the true meaning of faith, it becomes clear that it involves more than just mental or verbal assent, but is in fact, risk toward a particular end

As fall approaches and our lives return to rhythmic routines, allow me to end today’s newsletter with a question(s): What would daily life look like for someone or a family deeply committed to faithfulness toward Jesus? Would others recognize the daily choices we make as risk toward the call of Jesus on our lives?  Maybe a better way to ask that is, is Jesus the best explanation you have for the way you have decided to live?

See you all Sunday as we continue our journey through the Sermon on the Mount.

Volunteer Opportunity

Thanks to Ben Roberts for serving in the lector position! We continue to need volunteers for this position, preferably for monthly commitments at a minimum. September donation requests for the pantry are crackers, boxed cereals and refried beans (pouches preferred). We accept any non-perishable food items at any time, as well as diapers and wipes.  You can place your donations in the bin in the Education building.  The Pantry is very appreciative of our donations.  Thank you, Dave, for making the deliveries.
